Some fifteen years ago I remember asking our fearless leader, George T. Mortimer, what he thought of Alex Jones and Info Wars. He paused to think, I could see the alien symbols and algorithms crunching numbers in his brain. It was a very measured response to the question, “He seems a bit sketchy to me.” At the time I thought that was odd. George and Alex were both in the same business together looking beyond the veil of your average mainstream media take on the news. Little did I know how prescient this observation would be.
The thing I always found strange about the Alex Jones ban was on the surface he seemed dangerous. But when accused of promoting violence and taken down off his platforms why no violence at all after he got banned? Nothing happened. No attacks on Google, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or Instagram by any of his followers?
If you ever scanned his website and read the comments it was creepy as fuck. Half of them were calling for armed revolution, the other half talk of shooting federal agents. It was literally nothing but guns and violence, 2nd Amendment crap and defending the constitution every other comment. Yet when he gets banned no revolt? Nothing blows up? No armed attack on any of the companies that banned him?
I'm not defending the clownhole. I'm saying how unbelievably strange it was. What if most of his so-called dangerous followers in the comments section were sock puppets and fake accounts? What if Alex Jones The Great Truth Crusader was merely playing a role? If you've read any books on disinformation tactics he fits the mold perfectly. What if the reality is more frightening than most people can imagine? What if the whole thing was straight up government funded disinformation?
If you believe the Russian troll theory of hacking our election why would you assume the U.S. doesn't have its own propaganda and disinformation program too? It would be like saying, "Oh the Russians have the bomb because they're evil and sneaky. America would never do such a thing." Half of what the CIA does is in publishing and propaganda.
What if his job was to sound ridiculous? What if his final goal was to become completely discredited? This would mean all the things he talked about would be ridiculed. That’s exactly what he's accomplished. Disinformation is mixing facts in with complete bullshit using a ridiculous character to poison the well. The effect is to keep all the ideas he discussed out of the more respectable press. That way they never rise to the top to become a legitimate news story. This doesn't mean all of the things he talked about were true. It means some of it was true mixed in with total bullshit. That's the job of the disinformation agent.
It’s highly effective and cost efficient. You don't need thousands of agents. You just need a select few in key positions to disseminate it. The rest of the people spread the bullshit unwittingly.
If you don't think Alex Jones was a successful disinformation agent just look at what average people think of conspiracy theories now. They either laugh, give them no attention at all or think they're dangerous. That's where we're at. Even the phrase "conspiracy theory" was a weaponized term spread by the CIA. We have literally found the documents proving this from FOIA requests. People can look directly at those documents to see with their own eyes and still be in denial thinking it's all Looney Tunes. Because he's already poisoned the well.
It's gotten to the point where I've had conversations with intelligent people, college educated, sane, rational, they pay their bills etc, I'll bring up something as simple as the Iranian coup of Mosaddegh in 1953 which is easy to find information on at the nearest library. It's in the historical record for fuck sake. And they'll respond with, "Oh I can't even. So, you're saying that was some false flag operation? You're completely insane." I have literally given someone a link to the CIA's own website where they have posted their own declassified documents on the coup. They saw it with their own eyes and called it more crazed Alex Jones crap. That's how powerful the guy was and that's how powerful disinformation is.
So, what was Alex Jones? A complete and utter failure? A paranoid idiot? A delusional turd? Or a master manipulator and highly skilled disinformation agent? If you examine what his results are (not the topics he discussed) he has completely ruined any and all talk of conspiracy. ANY thing that sounds remotely like a conspiracy theory people now ridicule. How could he be that much of a failure unless it was the goal all along?
After 9-11 and the anthrax attacks, after the signing of The Patriot Act, after Dick Cheney told you to your face on Meet the Press, "We also have to work though the dark side...", after our intelligence agencies have grown tenfold (according to Top Secret America Dana Priest’s series in the Washington Post), you don't think our own government wouldn't be spreading disinformation?
Just sayin', that would be a tad naive. The whole thing seems sketchy to me.
